Stephen Mathers was born into a musicial family, where he found the Saxophone at the age of 11. Quickly and effortlessly, Stephen began to adventure into the world of Jazz where he gained inspiration from musicians such as Miles Davies, John Coltrane and Louis Armstrong. As well as being inspired from these traditional sounds, Stephen was intrigied by the classical world and the versatility of the Saxophone throughout different genres.
Growing up in Bath, Stephen was part of various big bands, orchestras as well as running his own band and jam night. It was during these years Stephen knew that he wanted to spread the sound he created through the Saxophone to the world.
At the age of 21, Stephen moved to London to study at Trinty School of Music where he achieved a BMUS Hons Jazz Saxophone Degree. Throughout the course and after graduating, he was part of bands such as Gentle Mystics, Rum Buffalo, Smokey Taps and ensembles such as London Soundpainting Orchestra and On The Roof. He has performed at venues and festivals across the UK including Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Roundhouse, Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, ENO, Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Bath Music Festival and many more.
